I'm very excited about next years Defense!!!

First let me say that we will make the Playoffs this year and do some damage when we get there. But I can't help peeking ahead to next years Defense. I'm most excited about our D-line. The rotation at DE will be Grant, McCray, and Smith. The rotation for DTs will be DeMario Pressley, Sedrick Ellis, and Brian Young. Our LBs will be Vilma, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and Scott Fujita. I also like the depth with Marvin Mitchell and whoever is picked up in the draft. I really like MM to come back as a bigtime CB with the knee firmly in the rearview mirror. The question is will Young be able to step in at CB for Mack or will it take another year. Young is clearly good enough for dime and nickel but we need more from him and I think he will deliver. With that said Tracy Porter was on pace to be the top rookie CB in the league. Harper still needs work but that Monday Night game showed us that he is quickly cleaning up his act vs. the run and over the top coverage. He just needs to catch the balls that find there way into his arms. That's how I see it. I think the strength of our D will be the D-line. I just feel that elusive incredibly disruptive 4 man pass rush that sends average DBs to probowls will finally show up in New Orleans. Let me know if I have lost my mind or if we are looking nice for next year.

Maybe if we shore up the secondary and create more coverage sacks, but I don't think you get anything more than solid but not spectacular prodution out of the Dline without a serious upgrade, and that can't happen with all the money we've already invested.
Judging by your avatar and putting Pressley as a starter I think that you are basing your optimism on Madden Franchise mode.

seems like pretty much the same D as this year...so why aren't you excited about this year's D

This years D seems to be always short do to injury. We are still good to make this second half push. But we could be better if we were healthy. That said we will be healthy next year and we lack that opportunity this year.

One word. Gibbs. If we can get a new DC this will be a good D next year when we have everyone healthy and hopefully taylor mays

More than our cornerbacks, our safeties are poo.....yes, including Harper. Granted, he is solid against the run, but he's horrible in coverage. Kaesvihoo is a waste of space and has been a disappointing pick-up. This defense would benefit greatly by improved safety play.

I know...I wonder if he's mean. We need a mean muthafricker on defense.

Can Turley play defense? Can he even walk?

McKenzie, Mays, Porter and Harper/KK/Somebody would be a much improved secondary IMHO.

I completely forgot about Porter. He was coming on strong as a rookie.

Yeah, Porter was showing promise. Him and MM would be solid corners with Gay at the nickle. Mays at safety would be an instant upgrade.
That's at least 3 out of 4 good players in the secondary. Then we just need some production from our DE's and Shanle to retire, or the coaches to play Dunbar in his spot.

The corners should be MM, Porter, with Gay at Nickel, and Young at Dime. A new defensive coordinator and for god's sake a free safety with our first round pick or one hell of a safety in FA. If by chance we went after Albert Haynesworth, I would say frick every other FA. Oh and btw, resign Devery now, kid is showing up. He wouldn't be expensive.

I will never be excited about the defense until Gibbs hits the road. The guy is terrible when it comes to a defensive game plan. They definitely need to make a change.
