First deer on my new land

Been seeing deer every day; 8 up until this morning. Hoping for a big one and this morning I saw that 9th deer.
All the ones I was seeing were small, and I had been toting my favorite old rifle, the 270 Model 70 I had bought in college.
But that is too much gun for these deer round southern MS, so I opted for my forgotten gun, the 6.5 Creedmoor that I had only used one other season.
Those stray hounds were giving them hell behind me after the crows settled down and the Camp Shelby F18s took a break. They got so close my hairs where standing up. I knew it was a good buck coming, the hounds were right behind me and I was ready. When he jumped out from the creek thicket into the opening, BOOM. My Creedmoor rang, that deer flopped right there, and scooted 20 yards into the thicket where I could see him without even tracking a bloodtrail.
That little buck is gonna taste so good and the 6.5 Creedmoor is the perfect rifle for the little button bucks around here.

Unlikely, but true!
Ya gotta understand, these ain't Arkansas bucks. This was a one hander getting him on the 4 wheeler. All im saying is Creedmoor is perfect for itty biddy deer. May not even need my 270 round here.
Just playing around, it is satisfying setting up a new place and seeing game. There are a few good bucks around here and me, a relative or friend will get one soon.

I just busted the cherry on my new lease too. Shot a doe at 180 yards. Flipped her to off so she died in her tracks and I didn't have to trail her.
30-06 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips doing 3250fps. Nasty, nasty bomb going off in the chest. Got a nasty truck bed now though. The good kind of course.

Braggy? Hell no, but its part of hunting and it just so happened that the BB was what someone's hounds pushed out. You may be able to determine sex of a BB vs doe with 100% accuracy, but BBs get shot inadvertently often.
Read this about it not being such an awful thing.
Mossy Oak on Button Buck harvest
