North Central Louisiana. Wooded area. Picture taken on gravel road. An occassionally wet, occassionally dry creek bed nearby. I didn't get to see it myself. Wife did (no pics) while on a walk.

I am pretty tan, so good call.

NB4 Benjamin Watson appears so the internet can overplay the joke.

Thanks a bunch to you and the others who called it; it looks like that's the case.

Looks like the brown snake I saw in one of my cattle lots early this summer. First time I have ever ran across one like this. Usually just see bull snakes.

You baws should check out the iNaturalist app. It can help identify plants, birds, mushrooms, reptiles, and most everything just from a pic you take and upload. It is a free app, too.

ETA: It got this one right using the pic you posted.

That app is COOL. Now, it says Mexican brown snake, which looks reeeeeally accurate. But I ain't in mexico. And it say Dekay's as number two likely. So yea I'm instantly impressed.

It is. I've used it on a bunch of bugs and mushrooms. With mushrooms you kind of need to do some more studying to make sure. Moths are kind of difficult, too, because so many are so similar.

Just keep it on your phone. If you're one to get out and about you'll use it more than you think.

ETA: The way they do the whole research grade stuff is cool, too.
