I’d try a black and blue jig with a black trailer fished extremely slow in deep water.

Hit the a&p canal on the southwest section of the lake
ETA: head to the northeast section of lake palourde which goes into grassy lake, you can find some good canals and bayous around there.
As for lake palourde itself, you’d be better off cat fishing or gar fishing at night at the lake end park dock
The lakeside subdivision canal has decent sacalait fishing. I’m not sure if the locks are open right now though
If you need good food spots in town too just let me know

Got several of us MC boys in the OB. For the OP, shad are moving into the backs of the dead end canals off Cheramie and the Oxy fields and the bass are following. Lakeside canal is open and a good punching opportunity with the cold weather incoming.

ETA…. Used to crush the sacalait across the canal from the deck. Would catch a few bass in the pocket of Lakeside canal too

Man, I appreciated all the insight. I heard that lake can get kinda hairy when the wind picks up. Stupid question, I've never been there before, Is this lake pretty wide open? Like and i just tear off through the middle to the other side or are there any I need to be worried about?

We just ripped thru it…. I dont remember any shallow parts but it was 20yrs ago and I was a dumbass teenager Just keep an eye out for random cypress knees
There is also a canal called Bayou Ramos we use to fish a lot, its called the Avoca Island cuttoff on google.

Its similar to Verret and many other south LA lakes that aren't deep. Light wind will make it rough. You can just cross it anywhere though. There are no permanent obstructions or really shallow areas to avoid until you get to the edges around the Cypress trees.
