Reading the newly released investigative book on these murders, When the Night Comes Falling by Howard Blum.
Only about 1/2 through but has some interesting tidbits. For example, the 911 dispatch center was heavily understaffed and, due to call time consideration, dispatchers were trained to gather basic Info then end call when callers were confused or unable to concisely dictate details. “Unconscious person” was a frequently used description used by the dispatcher that could mean anything from a passed out drunk to a dead person.

Blum was on Megan Kelly’s podcast yesterday. Lots of stuff I didn’t know.

I saw a brief snippet of that interview which is what prompted me to buy the kindle book.

I had no idea a book had been written! I went deep down the rabbit hole on this one and then just quit. Completely insane story!

It was just published. It’s only about 240 pages but pretty interesting.

It’s kind of shocking the read that the Moscow PD had no idea that the FBI had ID’d Kohberger as a suspect from the sheath dna and were tracking him and his father on their trip across the country.

One thing I didn’t know is that when they arrested him he was in his kitchen at 1:30 in the morning wearing latex gloves , stuffing his trash sand DNA into ziplock bags . What are the odds?

I just re-read the first couple pages of this thread. Pretty funny how off most of the guesses were

I knew that he had sorted out his personal garbage and dumped it separately. I did not know that he did so wearing gloves, just as he had cleaned his vehicle with a shop vac also wearing gloves. I knew a relative had raised the possibility that Brian might be involved in the murder. I didn’t know that relative was his sister who was a licensed and practicing family psychologist who raised the concern after viewing his actions with the garbage and vehicle and knowing his history of behavior.

Although the book gathered info from unnamed sources (for obvious reasons), the detailed history and insight into the individual characters of this case is fascinating. It shows how past cases played into an individual detectives’ thought processes, the internal battle of Kaylee’s father, etc.

Does the book say why they believe he was targeting Mogen?
Posted on 6/26/24 at 11:20 am to Gris Gris
Nothing to hint at a motive so far but it offers some details into why they believe she was the target. First, he entered on the 2nd floor but bypassed both bedrooms that were there and went straight to her 3rd floor bedroom. Second, the injuries to her were described as “feral.” The other victims had enough injuries to kill them, obviously, but her injuries were viciously more.

How did he know which bedroom was hers? Had he been in the house before?
Posted on 6/26/24 at 11:25 am to Gris Gris
There is no evidence he had been in the house before that we know of.

I thought this might’ve been bumped bc of this date, but thread hasn’t been updated since 1/2023.
There is a hearing scheduled for tomorrow 6/27/24 to discuss the schedule for the rest of the case, including dates for trial & sentencing
On June 26, 2023 the prosecutors announced they were seeking the death penalty

I don’t know. Haven’t read anything about that yet. Still about 1/4 of the book left. Just at the point of his extradition trial.
Another thought into why the target was Maddie instead of Kaylee is that Kaylee no longer lived there and just happened to come in that weekend.

Apparently, he randomly saw her when she was a restaurant hostess and became fixated on her.
