Yes, the playing field used to have a very pronounced "crown" to it to promote drainage. But I heard that with the new playing surface and a drainage system beneath the sod, the field no longer has that crown to it.

Quarterbacks used to have to compensate for that crown. Throws to the sidelines would be too high if the QBs didn't allow for the different elevation.

I'm not sure when LSU went to the flatter playing surface.

Arnsparger started the movement to remove the original crown. It was substantially reduced when he took over to help the passing game.

Over time it has been reduced even more the subsurface drainage system was installed.
