Why is Baton Rouge’s Bar Scene so bad

For a state that loves to drink, how did Baton Rouge get designed so poorly that a shitty strip mall is essentially tiger land. Downtown is meh. It has zero Nola esq except for crime…
Maybe a question for the Old timers but was Chimes area nice Atleast? Because it definitely looks like it could’ve had potential but it’s just shitty commercialized over there with a cvs and smoothie king.

I don’t need a lot of razzle dazzle to get hammered.

Best bet is overpass area.
Downtown under Kip was actually looking up, but under Broome stick, it’s been terrible.
Br attempted to make government street decent but close proximity to high crime has killed that (pun intended).
Few other areas, like Perkins Rowe have attempted to change the BR scene but too many places have come and gone.

Cause it’s funner across the basin. When I was in college, everyone from BR came to Lafayette for the bar scene.
Girls were waaaaayyyyyyyy more loose too.

It’s not a good idea to be drunk and vulnerable in Baton Rouge. People just trying not to die.

The Keg TYFYS
But no, it’s not “funner”

Since the death of downtown this is the best spot
There are a ton of good bars in BR though. Just not walkable unfortunately
ETA: I’m late 30s though

Lol when I was in college 06-10, I went to laffy once and there were so many douche bags with Ed hardy shirts, I never went back. Laffy is the toilet of actual Louisiana cities. It sucks that the city is so terrible bc there are some great restaurants.

In the early 80s MADD made it too risky to "Barhop"
That was the beginning of the end of BR "NightLife"

You can get more in rent or property sales from apts or chain stores rather than places that make a neighborhood worth going to in the first place, such as local mom & pop restaurants and bars
Of course eventually the apts will have an extra vacancy or two, forcing them to panic and go section 8, and w/in five years the chains will be gone
such is modern urban America

If I’m a young guy going to bars near a college campus the only thing I’m caring about is how many girls I can meet.

Plenty of options for you in BR then

You don’t need to go to ten different bars in a night. Just pick one and stay there
Hayride Scandal is the best bar in BR

Translation…You couldn’t get laid at Fred’s or Murphy’s so you had to travel an hour to get laid by some second tier USL girl.
