How many additional prisons would need to be constructed to support the increased prison population? At what cost?

Excellent question.

But you mean we couldn’t keep an accused armed robber in jail on a high parole.

Now AH86 I’ve have an excellent question for you.

What was her life worth?

You are referencing bail. Bail and parole are very different concepts.

It is callous, but we measure the value of a life every day in wrongful death lawsuits.

Let’s pick a reasonable wrongful death figure … not the silly ones that make the news. Call it $5 million.

If we look ONLY at the annual operating cost of $16 billion and exclude the capital expenditures, you would need to save 32,000 lives per year to justify the $16 billion annual expenditure on an objective basis.

Are 32,000 people killed per year by parolees?

Yes, yes, that was rhetorical. We also have injuries and property crimes. What is the value of ALL crimes committed by parolees? I have no idea, and neither does anyone on this thread.
