Picture heavy post.

I try to get home every Oct. to get back in the mountains. My favorite place is called different things at different places along the ridge that separates KY from VA. Stone Mtn/Brush Mtn/Cumberland Mtn. Part of the mountain is in the Cumberland Gap Nat'l Historic Park, three different State WMA's, and private land. I ride some rough trails to get to the top and along the spine of the mtn. Going up to Hensley Settlement is rough up the old 4-wheeling road we take. I avoid Black Mountain Offroad park on the other end of the county, which is popular with all the out of towners. The Cumberland River starts on this mountain.

Looking back into KY on a big rock outcropping from Hensley Settlement Trail about halfway up the mountain.

A place we call the canyon. One of the tributaries to the Cumberland River.

Props to that guy doing rough trails on a YXZ. Those first gen SEs did not suffer fools at slow speeds

Best I've got that isn't out West is arkansas.

I almost endoed this 4 seater on a descent because of a rather hidden rock ledge. Pucker factor 10.

I like flat ground.

Not like you do, but I have a rigged out 100 series LC I use for this purpose. Love it. I’ve not been up to Kentucky though. Do you camp or just day trip?

Your tires are looking a little slick baw

I've hiked up from the campground at Cumberland Gap Park along the entire ridge trail to the little camp site at the other end of the Park near the sand cave.

It's one of the most grueling hikes I've ever done. It was summer time and no water to be found along the trail. Had to hike down off the ridge to streams to refill water bottles then back up the ridge to keep going.

Beautiful place with a lot of history. The Daniel Boone movie they show at the visitor's center is pretty good.

Clay County.

In KY, when you tell folks where you're from, or going, you tell them the county. Otherwise, they'll know you ain't from around there.

My kin are there so I stay with them.

Yes, the front tires are. Full time 4WD. I just don't ride like I used to or I'd already replaced them. But I think those slick fronts helped me get up a bad hill by making full contact with the rock instead of just some lugs touching here and there. I'll post a link below of a Jeep coming up the same hill right after me.

White Rocks? That's a beautiful view at the overlook. We were there once when guys with NPS were rappelling the cliff face taking samples of plant and animal life.

There is a well water pump at the far east farm on the settlement behind the farm house but you were far past that at White Rocks.

Yes, very nice place. It's a great Hillbilly phone booth too!

A little further north of there southeast of Lexington is a place called Torrent Falls. They have a Via Ferrata which is a great way for non-climbers to do some rock climbing.

A via ferrata is a ladder which has been put into the rock walls. Just put on a harness and climb
