Cajun (casual): The Chimes/Parrain’s, Elsie’s Plate & Pie
Cajun/creole (formal): Roberto’s River Road, Louisiana Lagniappe, Mansur’s
French: Maison Lacour
Hip upscale: BLDG 5, Overpass Merchant, Cocha
hamburger: Raul’s, Curbside, Overpass Merchant, Our Mom’s, Burgersmith
Fried Chicken: Triplett’s Blue Store, The Chicken Shack, Stockyard Cafe
Thai: Thai Pepper, Thai Kitchen
Indian: Swagat
italian: Pinetta’s, Gino’s, Ruffino’s
Sushi: Tsunami, Umami; Sushi Yama
Viet: Dang’s (Pho), Viet Garden (noodles), Little Saigon (bahn mi)
Mexican or BBQ: just don’t even try

BARS
college aged fratster: Fred’s, Bogies, the Revelry
Post college fratster: Ivar’s, Happy’s
Hipster: Radio Bar, The River Room, Mid City Beer garden
Artsy type: Brickyard South, Chelsea’s Live (if a band you like is playing), Smiling Dog
Upscale drinking: Hayride Scandal, Olive & Twist, Bin 77, Blend, Jolie Pearl
Beer snob: Tin Roof, The Bulldog, MidTap, Cypress Coast Brewing Co, The Lost Cove, Rally Cap, Le Chien, Gilla, Istrouma (these last three breweries are way out in the suburbs).
Cover band: Superior Grill, Red Stick Revelry (not the be confused with THE Revelry), Boudreaux & Thibodaux’s

Pretty strong list except for

Chimes -- I have philosphical objections to its gumbo.

Pinettas -- Still bad after all these years.
