I know this won't be my most exciting thread ever.. But I am going to share it anyways.
WWII Item - Music Program.
I have stated that sub-Catagories that I have in WWII collecting are Food, Music, CHristmas and Oklahoma. (As well as a few other states and Cities) Well this item hits 2 of those and almost a Third... Anyways, a cheap little pickup that I got... The item speaks for itself.. a Program to the newly released musical Oklahoma... Given at the US Military Academy West Point Theater... on... (Get this).... Halloween... Oct 31, 1943...
I think I paid $5. Got it last month.

unique item, but not much of a connection to WWII

I wonder if the production was a product of the USO. Those are the original Broadway actors apparently.

Those cadets were in war theaters the following year as second lieutenants. There is a good chance that Dwight Eisenhower's son, who graduated from the USMA on June 6, 1944, was in attendance. Very much a small piece of WWII history.

Robin Olds may have been in attendance. He would become a fighter ace within the next 12-15 months.

Olds probably played a football game the day before.

I was wondering if that was going to be an all male cast. There must have been a girl's college around there somewhere.

Robin Olds was a true badass.

Yes sir he was. I had the honor of meeting and talking with him a few times. Also destroyed a few brain cells with him.

This wasn't a student production. Those are the Broadway actors. That's why I was thinking this was something organized by the USO.

His mustache alone was credited with seven kills.

Answering errbody...
100 days later if my math is correct, this Cadet was killed in action.
I don't think it's a USO production because I don't see thier logo or anything.
I believe it to be a professional if not THE Broadway production hired by the theater.
Been way too busy to research it as of late but can't wait to research both Officers and Actress's.
Ellen Love and Bambi Linn.

My maternal grandfather was an instructor at West Point at the time. I'm sure my mother (who would have been 14) and her sister (who was 18) would have both been in attendance.
Their older brother, who was 22 and in England with the Army, ended up working with many of the names on that program as he ended up an actor and musician in NYC from 1949-1980.
Thanks for sharing.
