The US killed far more Japanese with firebombing than nukes far more...and it was okay. Dead is dead right??

And Im not talking about a nuclear holocaust, Im talking about using a nuke anywhere, for any reason is taboo.

Its entered our nomenclature. Its like racist words, a man can be beaten to death and its a terrible tragedy....until we find out he used a racist word, then, well he deserved it. Okay I embellish but not far from the truth. If the person cussed you and disparaged you, is it any different than a racial slur?

Neither is "okay".

What we did to Tokyo, Dresden, etc etc was an abomination

I don’t think firebombing a city is okay today.

War is hell. You only commit war crimes when you lost.

I mean, it isn’t.

Only a moron would say that fire bombing is a good thing.

Radiation is a slow death, whereas fire is quicker, but there are many more hazards

Radiation leaves areas uninhabitable for a long time. Fire just clears out the property.

It is like Japan set the precedent, crossed that line, with the rape of Nanking in 1937. Sort of like Germany complaining about Dresden while conveniently forgetting about the bombing of London, Rotterdam or Guernica all when Germany was top dog.

in theory:
colonel McNamara Harvard math major who designed the bombing pattern used to firebomb Germany was a war criminal and so was his boss gen Curtis lemay.

irl:
McNamara was later sec of defense while gen lemay was over entire military during Vietnam war/conflict/disaster.

Brits bombed German cities for months before they responded in kind.

Or like us complaining about the rape of Nanking, and then doing the same to germany post-war.

I missed the part where anyone said that firebombing cities was OK.

Of course the obvious answer is that nuclear strikes involve radioactive fallout…

I beg to differ...greatly. What we did to Tokyo and Dresden saved American soldiers' lives. Better the enemy's soldiers and civilians die than ours.

You can read the summary. Here is a part.

quote:

On May 8, 1945 the shooting ended in Europe. But, shockingly, the war against Germany went on. Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill had decreed that the German people must suffer-and suffer they did. Driven from their homes, looted of their property, decimated by famine and disease, raped, robbed, and enslaved, millions of Germans-most of them women and children-bore the brunt of what Time magazine called "history's most terrifying peace".
