The rule is that if there is a backwards pass and the players don't try to pick it up or the player doesn't try to advance it, the play is dead at that spot. That's why it went from 15-to-go to 20-to-go. Tess and McElroy were too busy talking about where UT and Bama should be ranked to explain what was happening on the field.
