Literally just coming on right now as part of Ralph Macchio's guest programming choices on TCM.
Probably a top 5 screenplay ever put on film, and probably the most accurate for telling of modern media, along with A Face In The Crowd.
1976 also may just be the absolute peak of American cinema.
Network
Rocky
Taxi Driver
All The Presidents Men
The Omen
Marathon Man
Logan's Run
Outlaw Josie Wales
The Shootist
A Star is Born
The Pink Panther Strikes Again
Silver Streak
King Kong
Etc
Etc
Etc
Etc.
Network - 7 pm
Rebel Without a Cause - 9:15 pm
Singin in the Rain - 11:15 pm

I watched this for the first time a few months ago and his big speech could honestly be played right now and it rings just as true as it did in the movie

I watched for the first time in years at the start of the pandemic and it was scary how much it reflects media culture 45 years later.
The 70s is my favorite movie decade so many great films.
