Rail workers reject new contracts, reviving strike fears after Biden took credit for ending dispute
LINK
A major rail-worker union having reject a Biden administration-backed labor contract has reignited concerns about a strike that could worse the county's ongoing supply chain issues and fuel inflation that has already reached record highs, in part over a scarcity of goods.
The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the Teamsters on Monday rejected the tentative contract in large part over a lack of paid sick days, union President Tony Cardell said.
The ongoing contract dispute with the freight railroad industry has largely been about compensation and working conditions.
BMWED represents about 12,000 rail workers, making it one of the largest and most powerful such union.
While the no vote will force the rail companies and labor unions back to the negotiating table, the workers cannot strike until after a so-called cooling-off period in late November, after the midterm elections, according to Politico.

Then give them some fricking paid sick days.
It’s absolutely absurd in this day and age that parts of the railroad industry don’t have paid sick days.

Someone should tell him that Putin is raising gas prices again.

The offer to the union was pretty strong and included a 23 or 25% across the board pay raise. Give me that and unpaid sick days any time. How often are these people sick?

It's a straight line for Christ sake. They don't even have to steer. What more do they want?

Not every place officially has paid sick days. My company for example just has a bucket of PTO you get and you can use it for vacation or sick days or hungover days or whatever.

they are already pretty well paid, they don't want to be on call 24/7.

If you've never known anyone that works one of these jobs I could forgive this kinda talk.

Do you think it's really that simple?

If you have to miss a round trip then it’s really a half a weeks pay that they miss out on.
The vast majority call in “sick” on the weekend to not miss birthdays, big games, etc. They just want the ability to do it punishment free more often.

Yes. Also, if their scheduling wasn't bat shite insane you'd have more people working their schedules and not needing to use "sick."

i guess 60 minutes won't be doing a follow up story to their puff piece about President Biden saving America from a potential crisis.

The only thing Biden was trying to do was to delay the strike till after the election. It worked.
