At the time the first Child's Play movie came out, dolls for children were the in thing.
Cabbage Patch Kids for the girls and the My Buddy doll for the boys.
I don't think it was meant to be scary; certainly not in the way modern fear porn movies are disturbing and gruesome.
But it took an innocuous toy that almost all households had at the time, and turned it into something frightening and sinister.

This show is sort of woke but it’s entertaining as hell and you quickly get over it. 
I could not believe how far this show went with some of the deaths. It’s pretty brutal. Stoked for season 2.
