Earnest_Pee is a progressive, based upon his logic. Completely ignores the crime, critiques the response to the crime.
The United States Supreme Court has determined a trained police K-9 has the same protections as a human police officer.
The next logical step is the microsecond it takes for the criminal to adjust his aim from the K-9 to the human officer, which was clearly done in this case.
Greek philosophers spoke about "progressives" (by description) being destructive to a civilized society. There are also many relevant quotes by Mark Twain about progressives being the antithesis to a civilized society.
In short the consensus of the OT is Earnest_Pee is a poopyhead.
Hope the K-9 is OK.

And? I understand the law. I object to giving a canine the same protection we give a human, regardless of what the law says.
