At my company, the oldest employees are the ones who take the most time off.

What does taking time off and WFH have anything to do with each other? The older employees have earned more vacation time, thus have earned more time off. The younger employees who just hire on seem to think they are entitled to as much PTO as 20 year guys. That's not reality. Yet, that is the constant gripe from millenials (yes i'm also a "millenial", born in 82).

This entitled generation expect to be paid salary, but also get paid for anything over 40 hours. That's not reality. I had a kid we hire state that if he had to work late he wanted to be compensated "fairly". Employment and your salary is your compensation. If you want to work hourly, then you will get paid HOURLY, at a much reduced rate. Someone is feeding kids a line of bullshite, and a lot of it is from the "ok, boomer" crowd. The entitlement and poor work ethic of these children out of college is mind boggling. In order to be entitled, you have to EARN IT.

Every single sector of private industry, every company, has the same gripe. We can't find anyone that will actually work. We can't find anyone worth a shite. Meanwhile, all of the experience is retiring.

Sounds like you need to pay more.

The average college graduate makes less today than the average high school graduate 40 years ago.

Wage stagnation is a real thing.

The problem is millennials are way behind where the previous generations were at their age because of the financial crisis. When companies got back on their feet a few years after that they first hired back the laid off experienced workers and then eliminated training programs as a cost-cutting measure. Besides, there were tons of experienced folks looking for jobs, so it was easy to receive resumes with perfect experience to the job they're looking for.

Corporate America fricked themselves with short-term thinking and now there's going to be a lot of pain to get new employees that will have the experience they need to perform their jobs.

Yeah they're entitled and snobby and maybe even lazy quiet quitting types, but the way things went they were never allowed to grow up with boomers clogging up everything while eliminating all of the structures boomers used to get where they were at.

The boomers got into their jobs with no college degrees, training programs, etc., but never ever considered how the changing standards might frick the younger generations over in the long run (demanding college degrees and eliminating any formal training programs).

Our economy became a mercenary economy with the boomers extracting as much as they could out of who they could and then tossing them out afterwards with no thanks.

Boomers were the last generation with long term employment at one company and completely eliminated that possibility for those after them.

Now we see the fruits of that. People don't trust companies to be fair towards them and are demanding more upfront. Do they deserve it? Probably not, but you can see why after watching their parents they'd do that.

the vast majority of people change jobs several times before they are 30. They are building a resume, not a legacy with your firm. You are almost better off paying them hourly instead of a salary if you are wanting to work over 40 hours, at least they have the motivation to do it.

working over 40 as a salaried employee is working for free. frick that.
