Fly into Edinburgh. 7 nights total (5 in Scotland, one night on overnight train to London, last night in London, fly home from there).

What itinerary would you recommend? Train to London runs from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. What do you consider “can’t miss” vs “skip it”? Is five nights enough?

Personally, I would go to Islay and visit distilleries, but that's just me.

How many places do you want to stay? By that I mean do you want to base and day trip or move daily? When I go with my father in law we change cities to sleep daily. I have a TON Of recommendations but need to know what you like or want

At least two days in Edinburgh. Skip Glasgow. See the Castle, the Palace and the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The Real Mary Close Tour was well worth it too.

Best thing by far in London is the Tower of London. I spent the better part of a full day there.

I agree that you should probably skip Glasgow, I do the Royal Mile and hit up Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral and Hollyrood Palace which are all on it. St. Andrews is about an hour and a half from Edinburgh if you are a golf fan.

So two days minimum in Edinburgh. Need suggestions on the other three days. Rent a car and stay in a different town, or just take long day trips?
