Don't blame the judge. The DA accepted this deal. He's the one you should be blaming. This did not go to trial. The judge simply accepted the plea the DA and defense agreed to.

Swartz is one of the good ones. I suppose he could have rejected the agreed sentence, but that rarely if ever happens in a criminal case.

This student/animal should have gotten at least 5 years of hard time, IMO though.
