Calm down chief. So your beef is me saying it was invented for varmints? That can be argued either way.

What can't be argued is that even with the heaviest bullets offered, it is not a good choice for the inexperienced to shoot a larger deer like we have in most of Louisiana. There are better choices that have not much more recoil.

I have a .280 by the way and a close friend has a 7mm Express. I know a little bit about cartridge history and am familiar with Remington's screw ups. It they would have offered the .280 in a bolt gun Jack O'Connor likely would have chosen it. Had that happened the .270 would be the lesser known.

Winchester introduced the 270 in 1925. Jack O Connor started using it in the 30’s I believe. Remington didn’t come out with the 280 until 1958. Why do people make up stories.
