International Powerlifting Federation just changed rules for bench press.

No more severe arching of the back to limit the barbell path. The bottom of the elbow has to go to, or below, the top of the shoulder joints for it to be considered a good lift.

Other changes as well, but this was the biggest.

I had a 3 plate bench in high school at one of the smaller weight classes in a single ply suit.

I actually like this rule.

This is good. The sumo version of bench press was ridiculous.

Good. It never made sense how people dump on sumo pulling, but gave the high arch, 3” ROM bench a pass somehow. The latter reduces the ROM by at least half and is complete bullshite.

yep, i never really understood the hate on sumo, frick arched bench, thats bullshite imo.

Having only just started doing it a bit you definitely use some leg muscles you don’t with regular deadlift.

Ok, at first glance I thought they were banning the "arch" but this makes complete sense. I am still working on getting somewhat of an "arch" when I lift because otherwise I tear up my shoulders and elbows.
