We just started a fishing team at our school and looking for a way to get more kids involved. Our problems is kids not having access to boats. Is there a place to rent boats or any other suggestions! Thanks in advance Also any fishing tips for Calcasieu River?

I sold my boat to a Dad that wanted to use it for high school fishing teams. Why you need a 23ft bay boat to take a couple of high school kids fishing I will not understand. He was going to put extra graphs on the dash and on the front with livescope... to take his kid fishing.

As a dad we will do anything to spend time with the kids.

Nothing wrong with bank fishing if you can find a secluded spot

We fish for Central high School, one of the largest if not the largest team in the State. I don't think renting will work due to the $300k liability policy required on each boat. The captain doesn't have to be a family member. I would put something on social media or reach out to some local bass clubs and see if anyone would be willing to help. You will be surprised how many people will step up to help these kids. You can always reach out to Mr. Tommy as well. He may have some advice that will be helpful. Turning away kids that want to fish has to suck.

High School or junior fishing tournaments typically seek volunteers who will lend the use of their for events. Most of the time these volunteers drive the boat during tournaments and also function as an observer.

High school fishing is a circus. Parents hiring guides and then parents taking 16-17 year old kids out and catching 18-20 pound bags. Most dont actually learn to fish the hard way..

you are true in that regard. They should not be able to hire guides. On the flip side parents that don't tournament fish would be at a major disadvantage. I think the boat operators should be just that. Should be all on the kids to find and catch fish

Bless those people. It's a huge ask to take a random kid fishing for the day and not be able to touch a rod.

LHSBN implemented new rules last year to help limit some of the "unfairness".

10 day no seeking info rule and no fishing with anyone else except the registered captain during that period.
