Before my health issues hit I once stayed right by that campus and it was gorgeous. I thought to myself, this place could be a huge football school with these views, spirited campus etc.

But they have not had a good coach since Gary Barnett or so it seems.

That’s crazy. They used to be really good in the 80s and 90s, and they had a few good teams in the early 2000s. I’ll never forget CU coming out in all black and gold helmets and Bobby Purify and Chris Brown slashing through the Nebraska defense 62-36

Agree. They need to hit CA and TX hard.

Just like Nebraska - leaving the XII hurt them. I've been saying for years they need to dump their new conferences and go back so they can hit that Texas recruiting trail again. They still have Baylor, TCU, TTech, Houston, etc to advertise the area with so they can tell those kids parents they can see their kids play in person.

I am pretty sure their facilities are shite, which can't help.

I loved watching colorado in the 90’s and very early 2000’s. I’ll never forget watching them smash the Nebraska team that went to the bcs title game. From what I understand the admin just doesn’t care about investing in football anymore.

It is more than a lack of a good coach.

They had a pipeline from inner city Los Angeles to there starting in at least the 70s. That created a culture on campus that became a problem around the time Gary Barnett ran his mouth about Katie Hnida being a shitty kicker.

Subsequent coaches had a lot of problems with the administration admitting players as a result, which is why Colt Brennan got tossed and ended up at Hawaii.

My guess is that a lot of those kids end up playing at Maryland, Penn State, Virginia Tech, BC, etc.

Because they sure aren’t fricking playing at Rutgers.

This is false. They actually have great facilities.

Facilities

In a nutshell, CU is a victim of the woke/left mentality in Boulder. Football doesn't matter to the CU administration. Almost zero support. That woke town culture also means there is very little fan support. It's just a fact.

There are lots of "death by 1000 cuts" moments in the last 15 years that have not helped...recruiting restrictions, limited salaries for coaches, etc. But it all stems from the lack of care from the fans and administration.

I stand corrected. I was in Boulder, albeit about 15 years ago, and saw their stadium and it looked crappy, if not quaint.

That rule change to 4 downs only hurt them.

This

Colorado is what happens when a school administration is openly antagonistic towards football

And the transfer portal means it's only going to get worse for CU.

They take a ton of good athlete, 3 star players, coach them up, given them experience, and then watch them bolt for the bigger opportunity.

This past year, they lost their all conference RB, both starting WRs, and 3 starting secondary players to the portal.

I get they aren’t in state, but it’s just shocking they have any.
Would not have expected NJ to have any talent

My friend in H.S. was recruited by Colorado, but ended up not going to the visit. A few weeks later the stripper scandal came out and he was so mad he didn't go

Boulder is liberal but they seem awfully NIMBY-ish when it comes to football players.
