If we had a 12 team playoff in 2018, LSU would have played Ohio State in Columbus.

That’s one reason I am excited about the 12 team format. There will be years we get to play in some places we might never see otherwise.

For the record, Ohio State—ranked 6–went on to beat Washington by 5 points in the Rose Bowl that year. We beat 7th ranked UCF 40-32 in the Fiesta Bowl. I would have liked our chances.

Your going to see better football. Meaning 2 loss teams that play very good schedules. Or teams hot at the end of the year are going beat higher ranked teams that play weak schedules. Which means NC game could produce some upsets.

LSU would have made the playoff at 9-3. That’s dumb

LSU would have been in the playoffs in 2005, 2006, 2012 or 2013 and 2018.

Bama gets in every year but we improve our chances of a NC.

One of the examples I always use for playoff expansion is Penn St and USC from 2016.

Penn St started 2-2 with a huge loss to Michigan on the road (finished 6th in rankings). They then went on an 8-0 regular season run beating a ranked Iowa and 11-2 (#2 finish in county), Ohio St. They then beat an eventual 8th finish 11-3 Wisconsin team in the Big 10 championship game. They finished 11-2 going into their bowl game.

USC started off 1-3 and were skull drug by Bama (national championship contender), and beat badly on the road, by an eventual 10-3 Stanford. They then went on an 8-0 regular season run beating eventual playoff participant/Pac 12 champ/12-2 #4 finish Washinton by 2 TDs and 10-4 Pac 12 championship participant 11th rank finisher. They finished 9-3

These teams then had one of the best games of the 2010s in the Rose Bowl. USC ended up on top 52-49.

TL;DR a team can start off bad, but can eventually become strong by the end of the year. Both these teams beat playoff participants. USC beat both participants in the Pac 12 championship and Penn St beat 2 top 10 finishers in Ohio St and Wisconsin and won the conference championship. You can't tell me they wouldn't have given Clemson and Bama better games.

I think a team that starts slow and cones together later in the season is good for them but not championship material in my opinion. I think a championship caliber team plays well from start to finish. Every game is important.

01 & 04 as well. 01 lsu could have maded noise with the way the offense was playing. interesting if saban would have stayed through the 04 playoff or still bolt to miami. they were playing well at the end of that season too.

That 2001 offense would have been fun to watch with a title on the line. Davey and Reed were absolutely unstoppable. That defense was probably too poor to win a title, but that would have been a fun run to watch. We will get those kind of hit team matchups in this new format.

I do wish they had stopped at 8 teams and not down the byes, though.

12 team playoff format could possibly have up to 7 SEC teams. Champion plus 6 at large highly ranked teams. Not likely, but possible.

I was just talking about in the CFP era, had it been 12 instead of 4 all along.

Why 12 let’s just make it 32 why shouldn’t everybody get a chance. If you gonna have 9-3 teams may as well have 8-4 or worse teams as well. I mean they may have lost their first 5 games but man they went 7-0 to finish the season, let’s get em in there they deserve a shot dammit………
