I do believe JD was young and didn’t have very good coaching. Our coaching staff will be much different than AZ State.
Coaching will only take him so far. If he doesn't have the abilities or the field smarts, he will struggle. I've heard more than one person compare him to Anthony Jennings or Brandon Harris. That's not something that inspires a lot of confidence. I've watched his highlight footage. I wasn't impressed.

you saw a couple retards say that on here and now it’s a fact? right

Jennings just didn’t have talent, he’s more like Harris, talented but sloppy.

I watched Bryce Young play in spot duty his freshmen year, and you know what, he didn’t look great considering what he had around him. He looked completely different his sophomore year. Nuss is not Young, but I don’t judge much from being started in an SEC game for the first time with almost no experience, a bad oline and a running game averaging barely over 3 yards a carry. Im all for trusting the coaches and at least watching some games before analyzing where we are at qb. I seriously doubt that they would start Daniels if he couldn’t throw the ball with some accuracy, so if he starts, he’s a guy that Kelly trusts to do that.

Daniels’ release actually looks a lot like Young’s.

Now go watch his freshman season when he has talent around him.

So you just watched’21? Nothing from his other two years (year and 4 games really) when his stats were good? ASU was a dumpster fire last year.

Whoever told you that Daniels is compared to Jennings or Harris is a complete dumbass who is probably just mad that Daniels will be the starter.

I watched all of AZ State games from ‘21. So it really sucks to say, but JD isnot a good passer.
You got your verb tenses wrong. I’ve only seen highlights, so I’ll take your word that what you said you saw WAS in fact the case. Jayden Daniels WAS not a good passer in ‘21. But this is 2022–present tense. And since we haven’t seen him play a game in the ‘22 season, we don’t know that Daniels IS not a good passer. He may very well not be. But we won’t know that until next Sunday at the earliest.
Now, no matter how much he’s improved, he’s not gonna ever have the arm talent of Nuss. You said a lot of his interceptions were simply bad passes, overthrowing his receivers. I don’t think we as fans always have enough information to definitively know those. Did somebody run the wrong route, did somebody break off one the wrong way, did somebody just stop, whatever. However, for this discussion, I’ll concede that all 10 of JD’s 2021 interceptions were his fault alone.
The knock on Nuss is that he’s too confident in his arm, tries to fit the ball in tight windows, doesn’t live to fight another day. One of the media guys said during one of the scrimmages—from around the 5 yard line—somebody beat a tackle off the line and Nuss retreated 25 yards and heaved it up into the end zone where a DB dropped an easy pick. Now, Kelly mentioned a similar play where he stayed composed and evaded the rush and dumped it off for 4-5 yards (Flynn was really impressed with a similar play Nuss made Saturday).
Maybe Nuss is getting better at that, but he’s still young and inexperienced and will inevitably throw a couple of those gunslinger picks. Which honestly, is fine as long as it’s not too many—you don’t want him playing scared and taking away his biggest strength.
So let’s say both QBs throw picks, they’re just different kinds. I’ve heard Kelly use the term “staying on schedule” several times lately (about offense and defense). He wants to run tempo and stay ahead of the chains. 1st and 10, 2nd and 5, 3rd and 2, etc…Assuming both QBs would throw a similar amount of interceptions—for different reasons—with similar attempts, Kelly is going to eventually go with the guy that can consistently keep the offense on schedule. The guy who finds the mismatch pre snap and gets it out quick to him. The one that recognizes where the blitz is coming from and either gets the ball out and completes the pass or throws it away and prevents a 7 yard sack. The one who reads the RPOs more consistently.
And one guy might not do all those better than the other—it could be a mix and why this could actually be a legitimately close battle. Another thing Kelly said is that we have to score 100% of the time from the 20 in. Can’t turn the ball over or take sacks in the red zone—that will be a factor. But to me, the most interesting thing is how much weight BK puts on Daniels’ explosiveness. I still think people are underestimating just how electric he is in the open field. We could be 3rd and 15 on our own 25, split the RB out to go 5 wide right down the field, carrying the DBs and LB or 2, depending on where the blitz comes from, and if he makes one guy miss, we’ve flipped the field and now have the ball on their 25.
He is by far the fastest QB in LSU history, and that is a weapon that may wind up being too tempting not to use. As long as he keeps the offense on schedule and doesn’t throw just terrible picks, I think he starts. But if he does start floating balls over the middle of the field that are either uncatchable or getting picked, Nuss will probably replace him as long as he keeps the offense on schedule and away from the other team.

That comparison doesn’t have anything to do with football

It doesn’t? They were our last 2 staring qb’s who were labeled “dual threat”. If you didn’t realize, TJ Finley was also black and couldn’t throw, but I haven’t seen anyone compare Daniels to him.

Didn’t he lead the conf. in comp%?

Jayden Daniels has already proven at the college level he is more accurate and a better athlete than both Harris and Jennings.
Also Anthony Jennings was never considered a dual threat QB. Not in recruiting and not as the QB at LSU.

I think the prudent response is we will find out how he does shortly

if i remember correctly he was the most accurate QB in the Pac 12....with no good receivers. Go look at what he did in 2020 when he had good receivers. '21 season he relied a lot on short passes to RBs out of the backfield due to not having good WRs....

It's been noted that the coaches have been working hard to improve his footwork and mechanics. If this battle was based off of spring, Nuss starts easy.
Daniels has supposedly progressed since then and is now close enough to Nuss that his running ability will make the difference in the decision. I'm sure Lamar Jackson had some bad throws in college as well.
