What are those of y’all who hunt small strips and plots planting for deer hunting in dry places in hardwood bottomland areas in parishes like Acadia, Lafayette, St Landry, Upper St Martin. Hunting is tough in those areas Or do you not plant and feed only? Or just follow acorns.

Not your area but se la we plant buckbuster in our small 1/4 acer plots.
We have tried to plant some small strips in the woods and it either doesn’t get enough light or it’s such a small plot tbat the deer just keep it browsed.
We have not been successful with having a fire break trail or 1500sq foot type clearing draw deer.

These are tough as leaves fall on the tract and get limited sun light. Dumping Mo’Bucks piles about 20’ from the end of the lane usually works best for us.

Rice bran and more rice bran.

Follow the deer, find where they bed, where their travel lanes are, locate natural food sources, THEN if you plant or feed adjacent to a travel corridor, or near but not too near a bedding area, you'll stand a lot better chance of pulling deer, especially bucks.

I’m in a similar situation as well and am interested as to what has worked for others. Is half an acre the smallest area worth the time and cost for a food plot?
If so, have you found it best to just use feed (corn, rice bran, protein pellets, etc.) ?
