Hope everyone is having a great weekend . While I sit here and browse my upcoming flights, noticed there are a lot of travel waivers out for flying this weekend particularly on American, Delta, and United for the thunderstorms. Southwest does not have any waivers posted as of 5pm Sunday.

If you look at DFW currently, there are a ton of diversions to Albuquerque, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, etc given a ground stop for thunderstorms. Pretty entertaining to watch as long as you're not on one of those flights Flightaware link to DFW. Cities affected include Charlotte, Dallas, and most of the northeast.

Cancellation count as of 5pm Sunday:
American- 312 cancelled, 722 delayed
Southwest- 110 cancelled, 1108 delayed
United- 13 cancelled, 393 delayed
Delta- 2 cancelled, 456 delayed

Regional airlines-
Envoy- 67 cancelled, 151 delayed
Republic- 42 cancelled, 239 delayed
Mesa- 39 cancelled, 86 delayed
Endeavor- 23 cancelled, 134 delayed

Let's check real quick and see how things look on Tuesday-

Partly cloudy early. Scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. High 84F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

Looks like it starts around 2pm on Tuesday ending around 6pm, I'd expect delta to update this waiver tomorrow and include NYC for Tuesday. Atlanta is only cloudy on Tuesday so worst case rebook through Detroit or ATL. Your flights are going to be completely full too given the cancellations happening today and tomorrow already

Are you on the 7am or 2:26pm?

It looks like there is a direct flight (MSY - BOS) at 1:11 that still has some first class availability on it (4 seats left). It would push our arrival back about 4 hours but I am wondering if I should just switch the flight now or wait and chance delays tomorrow?

The waiver is only for today as of current on delta so they'd likely have you pay any fare differences. That's a great backup flight if you're inbound flight doesn't make it to MSY tonight. If the waiver adds tomorrow then I'd go ahead and change to that one for free

Waiver has not been updated for tomorrow (honestly surprised) so you're stuck with your flights. Lga-Boston is only selling 1 seat, you may be able to make some $$ on an oversold flight

Thanks for checking. I saw our plane is on the way to MSY. I’ll keep checking the availability on that direct at 1pm and see if they offer anything to move back.

Flew through DFW today. Tough but wasn’t a total shite show.

Took about 3 hours from MSY-DFW with our detour to Lubbock.

Yeah your plane luckily made it in and out of LGA today on its way to MSY . Should be good for the morning, just hope there's no crew rest issues with them getting in late tonight. Any issues bump this in the morning

The east coast is a shitshow. I have 2 coworkers trying to get to Denver tonight and the LGA-DEN flight has been on the taxiway for 5 hours and they cancelled the EWR-DEN flight.

The 559pm currently scheduled for 12:50am? That's brutal. There's still a line of inbounds on their way to LGA plus this Miami flight that was supposed to leave at 340pm landing at 242am DL 945

I heard EWR is an absolute shite show. Saw a Dublin flight that landed and taxied for 4+ hours UA 316

Went off without a hitch…even landed in Boston about ten minutes early.

Do they sell lottery tickets in Massachusetts?

My flight out of MSY was about an 1.5 hours late leaving (1 hour delay and then a 30 minute wait on the tarmac). Took just south of 2 hours to get to DFW ( LINK). Missed my connection but already was auto-booked on a later flight. Made it to BNA only three hours late.

Have a great trip

That flight path is brutal. Did you get lunch at least? It's always nice making it to the destination even if it's late, that's the best satisfaction of beating the system
