Sam Harris’ response to clip: Twitter

quote:

There is a podcast clip circulating that seems to be confusing many people about my views on Trump (which is understandable because I wasn’t speaking very clearly). So, for what it’s worth, here is what I was trying to say:

I was essentially arguing for a principle of self-defense (where there’s a continuum of proportionate force that is appropriate and necessary to use). I’ve always viewed Trump as a very dangerous person to elect as president of a fake university, let alone the US, and when he became a sitting president who would not commit to a peaceful transfer of power, I viewed him as more dangerous still. (However, I’ve never been under any illusion that he is Orange Hitler.)

On the podcast, I was speaking narrowly about the wisdom and propriety of ignoring the Hunter Biden laptop story until after the election. I’ve always thought that this was a very hard call, ethically and journalistically. But given what happened with the Anthony Weiner laptop in the previous election, I think it was probably the right call.

Nothing I said on that podcast was meant to suggest that the Democrats would have been right to commit election fraud or take other illegal measures to deny Trump the presidency (nor do I think they did that).

Oh frick’s sake Sam. This is YOUR, yours personally, definition of self defense. My version of self defense is we need a President who is cognitive on the most basic level as we’re learned with our domestic policy, Afghanistan, and Ukraine, as I’m sure you’ll have to reluctantly agree with.

If Media Matters got to define their version of self defense, they would throw both you and I in jail for the defense of Muslims and trans people since we’re both vocally against Islamism and mutilating children. Do you not see where that ends, Sam?

Sam Harris’ response to clip

His response is worse. The thing I've always appreciated about Harris was his clarity in both thinking and speech. To suggest he wasn't "speaking very clearly" is fricking nonsense.

He allowed his Stage 5 TDS to get the better of him in that clip, and he must have been hearing it and when he saw it he tried this. but all this is is a rewording of the EXACT same horseshite he said in the clip...just slightly prettied up.

When was the last time anyone brought up Trump University? During the interview, I initially thought Harris was just using hyperbole to be funny for Kisin and Foster. But when Kisin challenged him on what he was saying, he doubled down on stupid.

Now his clarification of the earlier remarks refers to Trump University again as an example of Trump's danger? Even the "peaceful transfer of power" reason is weak considering Hillary openly encouraged Biden not to concede under any circumstances.

It's like Harris is desperately trying to convince us his reasoning is sound and that he doesn't have TDS. Why else would he throw in that he never believed Trump was "Orange Hitler"?

The problem, Sam, is that every ounce of Trumps dirty laundry was aired to the American people. If you don't counter that level of scrutiny you're not operating within a true republic.

Its akin to a doctor telling a patient all the symptoms a particular medicine might cure while actively hiding the potential side effects.

It's not the doctor's place to decide what's best for the patient. He's suppose to lay all the information out in front of the patient and let them decide.

Likewise, it's not your job to decide what the voters should consider before voting.

This is literally ethics 101...
