Scherzer has not been good on 3 days rest and last year it took so much out of him when he did it in relief that he couldn’t even pitch game 6 on 5 days rest. I seriously doubt they’ll ever ask deGrom to do it.
It likely eliminates two deGrom/Scherzer starts over the course of a postseason which can be extremely impactful imo. Mets are obviously very good but when you have the top two arms in the sport arguably you don’t want the playing field leveled at all.

o you think fewer Fried and Strider appearances is as meaningful as less deGrom and Scherzer?
I don't, but there are some people on this board who think our rotation is just as good as the Mets so I'd be curious to hear from them.
Their 1 and 2 are better than ours, our 3 is better than theirs, but I think I probably take their 4 and definitely their 5 over what we have.
Its probably a 4 man playoff rotation with them going deGrom, max, and some combo of Walker, Bassitt, and Cookie with the odd man going to the pen along with Person and Megill who should be back. So yes our typical bullpen is in theory stronger now, but their bullpen now isn't what we will see in the playoffs. Bullpens are notoriously inconsistent anyway.

I looked at the full postseason calendar, and just eyeballing DeGrom would start the first and potentially the last game of the NLDS on 4 days rest. Scherzer starts game 2 and gets 5 days before NLCS game 1.
NLCS you have scherzer game 1 and either game 5 or game 6 on full rest, if it got to game 7 I'm guessing they would throw deGrom for a few innings on 3 days but possibly not.
This is all projecting each series going the full way, so you can dive into WS rotations if you want but I've already thought about this too much
The Mets winning the DS in 3 or 4 games is going to be really big for their chances so they can save deGrom for 2 games in the CS. It really depends on how these series play out.

I wasn’t talking about head to head at all. Mets are hurt most by the change in format because they potentially lose 2 Scherzer/deGrom starts over the course of the playoffs. No other team losing 2 starts from their top 2 starters is as impactful as much because no one else has deGrom and Scherzer.
Braves literally just won a World Series with Fried and Anderson as their only 2 healthy starters and lost in game 7 of the NLCS in 2020 with only 2 starters as well. They’ve been able to win so many playoff games with mediocre-decent starting pitching because 61% of their postseason innings have been covered by relievers. They manage postseason games completely differently than regular season games.
The Braves fortune in the postseason is going to come down to how dominant their bullpen can be. That’s what they’ve relied on for the 28 playoff games they’ve played over the past 2 seasons and it’s how they’re built this year. #5 starters and really #4 starters are irrelevant.

Yeah, I know you weren't. I was just saying.

I mean the Astros losing Verlander/Valdez would hurt, Brewers losing Burnes/Woodruff, Cards losing Wainwright/Mikolas
Hurts every team including the Braves when you have your top 2 less often. Teams that have solid depth (which the Mets do) will benefit along with teams that have a strong bullpen. Issue becomes if you have to go to your bullpen early you could lose a fee key guys for an important game later.

Yes it hurts everyone but the team with the best 1-2 punch is impacted most. Would anyone disagree that Scherzer/deGrom is the best 1-2 punch?
I think fewer days off always rewards depth. No coincidence that the Dodgers won their only WS in a no days off format. Braves pen was worn down by game 7 and Dodgers still had a fresh Urias down there.

Most wins by MLB clubs since 2000
2 teams in the top 5, who haven't tanked, sell off, and have more wins, more division titles, more playoff wins, than many of them combined.
And none of the 2 "rebuilt" Pssst, it's Dodgers and Cardinals
Also one of them will have 2 of top10-15 prospects by years end, and will have top3 player in walker. Yet never had to tank, rebuild.

Walker Buehler to have season ending shoulder surgery, big blow for the Dodgers
Posted on 8/15/22 at 4:54 pm to tduecen
Damn, that's a blow. Saw a list of their pitchers on the IL. Just ridiculous. Treinen, Graterol, Kershaw, May, Buelher.
Missing all that and are still a dominant reg. Season team. Impressive

And yet in other threads/posts you bitch and moan about the Cardinals GM. I think the word you created for him was "Mo"ron because he passed on shipping the prospects you just bragged about in a Soto trade...you're a mess.
Here is your direct quote:
quote:
Lol at the Mo'ron love. The team has made it a point of not putting out best team, they want to put out a team that just gets into playoffs, and hope and pray they get hot.
Fans deserve 1000000000000000000000x better than that shite.
And Mo'ron himself has said that was the plan, just to get in.

Do yourself a favor and research the current financials of the St Louis Cardinals when compared to its "peers" you mentioned above. Pretty sure Mozeliak has done a pretty good job of balancing the competitive level of the team over an extended period given the financial realities/debt the Cardinals work within currently.
Fangraphs Local Media Rights Revenue per MLB club
Here is a good article

Ouch. Feel bad for our cross-state friends.

Yankees are dead. I wonder if Boone's job is on the line if they continue to tank into September.
Posted on 8/15/22 at 7:32 pm to Eat Your Crow
Most definitely as it should be along with Cashman
Posted on 8/15/22 at 7:34 pm to tduecen
Cashman should have been fired years ago. No doubt it was his doing that shite players like Gallo and Hicks played so many games this season.
He and Boone should both be out.
And play anyone else but Hicks. What am I missing there?

When Boone flat out said no prospects would be called up for the stretch run to inject energy in the club that came from Cashman. No way Peraza wouldn't put up a 80+ OPS with better defense than IKF
Posted on 8/15/22 at 7:40 pm to Eat Your Crow
Stanton being out, Carpenter being out, Andujar could play but they don't want Judge in CF. Florial should be up to play CF if that's what they are worried about
Posted on 8/15/22 at 7:44 pm to tduecen
Or they can just bite the bullet and play Judge in center and tell him to take it easy out there. shite, the play Hicks just fricked up in center Judge makes routinely without stressing himself.
Maybe Cashman's dumbass should have traded for a center fielder that will actually play this season instead of Bader.

Boone is essentially a puppet of a manager just following Cashman's master strategy. Need to get rid of them both and find a manager that can actually manage a game.

Yankees will be a 1 and done in the playoffs, Boone is going to make a decision that makes people wonder wtf
