I have an old Yamaha V671 Home theater Receiver and was looking to upgrade. Would I be getting much bang for my buck if I were to go with like a Denon AVR-S960H or Denon AVR-X3700H? Would I even notice any kind of difference?

You will get better responses if you list out or provide links to the specs instead of making people go hunt for them

The X3700H is a much higher level AVR. The biggest difference will be the number of filters Audyssey can use in the X3700H and the dual subwoofer calibration capability.

Im not quite sure i know what that means? Could you explain it to me? From what you are saying, it sounds like the X3700H would give a noticeable difference?

If you dont know what I'm talking about then ignore it and buy whatever is cheapest with the connections you need.

If you go down the audio quality rabbit hole, you'll spend way too much $ really fast.

Lol. Yeah I hear you on that one. I was just looking to try and improve the audio quality of what I have compared to the Yamaha V671. Preferably around $1500 max

Any Recommendations?

if the X3700H is in your budget and you dont mind paying more for something you may not fully appreciate it, get it. It is by far the best AVR listed.

Audyssey is the automatic room correction software within the AVR. It calibrates the system for you to help eliminate room issues.

This is most probably a dumb question, but what about the X3700H makes it so much better than the others? Would it be a noticeable jump from the Yamaha I already have?

Thanks again for all of the input!

Primarily the room correction software and dual sub calibration.

Again, if you dont know what those are it may not be worth it for you but the X3700H is a great AVR.

There are other things for the fanatics like more speaker channels, more pre-amp outputs (for those that use external amps), etc. The DAC is also top notch based on what is currently in the market.

I have the X3700H. The calibration features are amazing. I'm actually running 4 subs, 2 on each channel. I would buy it again.

How would a Marantz SR6015 compare to the Denon? I know it's $500 more, but is it worth the extra money?

It would also really help guide you if you can tell how you are using this setup and what's connected. Is it a 2 speaker setup, 5.1 surround, or something else? Music, movies, what sources?

The Audyssey room correction referenced is something that can help even out your bass and improve the clarity, even if you don't have a clue what that means you would likely hear it. Bass is by far the toughest part to get right and having an automated EQ setup is the easiest way to improve it.

My bad. It would be a 7.1 setup with 99% being either tv, movie, or video games. Hope that helps and let me know if you need any additional details.

Audyssey XT32 is a better version as mentioned above. Likely a subtle difference but could matter. If the 3700 is in budget it's certainly the better gear.

You can compare side by side with Crutchfield, and hide identical features to compare. The X series is a higher quality build than the S series, better warranty and power supply but the feature differences are trivial for most use cases.

I am a Denon fan and have been running them for years. Currently have a x6500h running an 11.1 setup. I’d go 3700 if it were me and read up on the room correction software there are plenty of vids/articles out there.

So the consensus seems to be that I would get a pretty big upgrade by switching from the Yamaha I already have to the Denon 3700?

As far as sound quality, no. If it offers additional features you want/need, then yes.
