Headed down to Roatan, Honduras for some scuba diving and fun soon. Anything we must do, go to, see etc?

Staying a private house on West End.

Also - is there a VIP service we can use to get through customs quicker?

Any airport / travel advice?

Thanks!

Customs was no issue when i went a few weeks ago. airport was fast both in and out with no issue.

the one place I enjoyed more than any other is camp bay beach. you will need a car or ride to get there but it is a beautiful unspoiled beach. when I went there was only about 10 other people there. it was windy that day so I didnt get to try any snorkeling but ive read they have some good spots there.

little french key was a highlight of the trip because of the big cats. def worth it if you like big cats. make friends with the zookeeper and ask him to bring you to see the tigers. they have like 6 tigers and he let us go right next to the door of the cage. I didnt feel right asking to touch one but he may have let. But I was able to stand inches away from one. the lions and jaguars and stuff are all in cages on the main art of the property and you can sneak a touch while they arent looking. Nice place to chill for a day.

Near the little french key boat landing is daniel johnson and aj's monkey and sloth hangout. we went to aj's it was cool and real hands on. got to hold sloths, monkys jump on your head, parrots, etc. well worth the visit.

I wanted to do the punta gorda to see the dancing and drums from the garifuna people, but didnt get a chance. on the way there is a tex mex restaurant called kristis overlook that was good food and a cool view.

we did the pirate of the caribbean zipline which was alright. not as good as costa rican ones I have done.

we stayed on west bay and snorkeled there and also went to west end and snorkeled there. I ended up taking a water taxi out to snorkel. it was decent but not the best I have seen. maybe better scuba.

places on west end that had decent food.

sandy buns bakery, try the cinammon rolls. good texas style food.

happy harrys was good and a cool view n the water.

argentinian grill was real good steak.

atm's arent plentiful so bring as much cash as you can. I had a car and had to drive to a few spots to find a working atm. this is the one I had to go to the ones near west end wouldnt work

I enjoyed the island it had a great vibe.

also watch out for the sand flies. they got me and my daughter pretty good, but not my wife. my daughter still has some marks from them and it has been a month or so.

Not going to lie. Sounds like a great way to get mauled.

You can stand next to a tiger in a cage or walk around new orleans. Ill take my chances with the tiger.

Spent a week there in May and it was excellent. I highly suggest renting a vehicle (I got a little suzuki samurai looking thing). There is only one real paved road on the island, but some of the best spots to visit require some intrepid dirt road driving.

I dove out of Fantasy Island and mostly stayed to the south side of the island away from all the tourist spots. I highly recommend Mary's Place and Cemetery Wall. For snorkeling, you can't beat west end.

Take a drive out to Camp Bay and have lunch and drinks at La Sirena if you get the chance.

Depending on currents and wind, be prepared for some rotten sargassum smell now and again. Its unavoidable, but shocking when you step off the plane.

We went there because it was a port on a cruise. We spent the day on West End’s Tabayna Beach. Beautiful beach. The snorkeling was great and it was a lot of fun.

Bananarama dive shop at Tabyana beach was great.

Barefoot divrr we s was really nice. Wanted to dive Mary’s Place but didn’t have enough dives under our belts. Still a great dive shop. The water was a little cloudy due to limited current but we saw a LOT of small items. Box fish, clown fish, Christmas tree worm, flamingo tongue, toad fish, BIG aneomone, turtle, etc.

Dove the plantation house and saw spotted eagle rays, turtles, and toad fish.

Roatan is a great place to dive!

If you ever go back take the ferry over to Utila. Amazing diving but a lot more rustic than roatan.

Aside from the fact that Utila has some great locations to dive with whale sharks, the reef there is not really any better or worse than at Roatan (Roatan may be a little better). Utila lacks quality beach, so it's cheaper and really focused on diving and ... and partying for the backpacker crowd.

I say that even though I haven't been to Utila since 1996 . Though I was in Roatan and Guanaja early this year. Guanaja doesn't get near as much tourist volume, and the few dive resorts tend to be nice and more expensive than many on Roatan, but Guanaja is relaxed and authentic.
