cut it WAYYYY back, like down to the nub back.
dig it out as best you can and get as much rootball as you can without tearing up your pavers

Good thinking, cgrand, especially if you have to transplant now, in the heat. Just be sure not to cut below the graft so that the regrowth is the preferred yellow flower and not the presumed-crappy rootstock. Better yet, wait for cool weather, and transplant the whole thing
