Family Hawaii Trip - Summer 2023

It’s our 20th anniversary next summer and we’re thinking about taking a family trip to Hawaii. None of us have ever been, and we want to get a broad experience.
Our kids will be 16, 14 and 9, and we love being outdoors and trying new adventures.
The trip could be 10-12 days long (give it take a few days on either direction). While budget is always an issue we are expecting to spend a lot on this trip.
Any recommendations on a travel agent that can help us plan a great trip (beyond just telling us which hotel to book), or any itineraries that anyone can share?

Never, and I repeat never use a travel agent.....

That's not true. For example, if you book Hyatt through the Hyatt Prive program, which is only available through an agent, you can do much better than yourself on paid stays.
I mention that because Grand Hyatt Kauai is in that program. Breakfast for two can run quite expensive, which is included if you book through Prive, along with a $100 property credit (just have to compare their rate vs direct).
Sometimes booking through Prive gives you a free night you can't get otherwise, etc.

Every experience I've seen on Facebook from friends going through an agent I've been able to find cheaper on my own. You just have to look and have a decent idea of what you want.
An agent imo is only useful if you do not trust yourself in booking for yourself. Hell, even plenty of Facebook groups I'm in I've read horror story after horror story of booking with agents.

I enjoyed my first stay there and will go back in June. I book on points but if you are paying cash see if a Hyatt Prive agent can get you a better deal. It's a niche for sure, but doesn't hurt to check.

Maybe my language is off, I’m just thinking of how to get some assistance in planning a good trip. It’s one thing to snag a cabin in the mountains for a week and a half; this seems like a little different animal.
I don’t really want someone booking everything - just some help with navigating moving from island to island, what’s worth seeing vs not, what sort of excursions are worth booking.

It’s a corporate gig so it’s a freebie. That’s good info on Grand Hyatts. I like their properties and find they have good/great redemption for Chase points.

I’m looking for the exact same thing! It’s our 25th anniversary and both kids will be graduating - one from high school and one from college. Lots to celebrate!

Have to go next December ('23) for the kids Band Trip. They are doing something Pearl Harbor anniversary.

I've been twice (July 2018 and July 2021). Kauai is one of my favorite places on Earth. The Grand Hyatt is a great property also.

Do as much reading as you can to get general info. The “[Maui, Oahu, et al] Revealed” books are good, but make sure you get the latest edition. There’s a series called Driving and Discovering that’s excellent. And if you’re considering Maui (highly recommended), Google “Jon’s Maui Info.”
First priority is deciding which island(s) to visit; don’t try to cram in 3 in a week. Exception to that advice: regardless of where you spend most of your time, don’t miss at least a day trip to Oahu for Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial.
