That's not what I said. I said I don't go around telling people their loved ones are irrelevant. I get she's upset about her sister but that was an asinine and arrogant thing to say and you know it

You and I both know Americans are more than happy to bandwagon onto a just cause. The problem is this is just a criminal having to serve her punishment, not a victim in need of saving.
I said nothing about how you or I are or aren't sympathetic about this, not sure how your reply really relates to what I said there.
Not sure how that needed to be spelled out for you.

quote:My point was it could be a completely unassuming person, not a black lesbian WNBA player who hated America, and we'd still all be like, "oh, that sucks...what's for dinner?" Meaning, sure you "care" but you don't spend more than 1 second on the topic before you shuffle on to the next one. That's normal, that's what we all do...or 99.9999999% of us. That was my point. She may not have articulated it very well, but that's all Diggins was saying. She was saying this wasn't some stranger to her like Griner(or whoever it could hypothetically be) is to all of us, this is a teammate/close friend. Again, not the best look of a thing to say out loud, but I don't really get up in arms about someone saying that "controversial" thing when it's a thing we all agree with or do.

It's not their relation to Griner that is the determining factor here. It's the fact that Griner is guilty of the crime she's accused of.
The mental gymnastics to make Skylar out to be anything other than a massive piece of shite for saying what she said is amazing.

Griner or not, what I said is spot on, zero clue how you'd disagree. She said what we all actually do with regards to close friends vs strangers, she just said it out loud. That's literally it.

You care more about something terrible happenings to a close friend than a random Jane, yes or no? Technically, you already answered that question.

Why are all of you so upset that her friends aren’t happy she’s in jail?
This is a normal reaction from
Someone who knows her personally.

I do not agree with you. You are saying her reaction is normal. It is not normal for a mentally sane person to refer to people they aren't related to as peons.

I think I know what happened here. Someone clearly faked a Diggins quote in this thread using "peon" and you thought it was a real quote?
Is that what happened?
What is this proof you "already have?"

You did him wrong!

I think what he’s saying is yes, of course people care more if their loved one is in a tragic accident compared to a random person. Nobody should say that out loud in a press conference, but with that type of thing being incredibly common and something that everyone has to deal with, it’s kind of inherent.
This situation here is SO specific, rare, and dire. So much so that we can all name a dude who was just stuck over there. We’ve seen his mom crying on TV.
When saying it about a victim of an extremely common occurrence, you’re not talking about anyone specific at all. Although you should probably still be a bit sensitive.
When saying it about being a falsely accused American stuck in a Russian prison you definitely shouldn’t say what she did. Like ok, uhh, who you talking about here, Skylar? It just seems way too specific to be like, “look, this isn’t that other person, this is Brittney!”
Then add the political stuff like people in Skylar’s circle/on her “side” doing the usual woke black lesbian shite making it seem like Griner is more important or needs more attention and then it’s really going to give people pause when Diggins is all like, “this isn’t just someone else.”
Then add that this is all Griner’s fault and most people on earth know not to smuggle drugs into Russia and then we’re REALLY like, “ok shut up Skylar.”
Know what I’m sayin?
