Pets love unconditionally, typically love everyone, and tend to be lower maintenance.

This is the answer.

Some people are simply exhausted by the effort of maintaining a successful human relationship. People are more complex than animals and are more vulnerable to feel wounded by words and actions. Animals are comparatively stupid and forgiving/forgetful.

I’m turned off by pet owners that seem to value the command and control relationship they can have with some pets. These people (on the average) seem not be as good with people.

But there are other pet owners who seem to simply be looking for easy companionship as an alternative or a supplement to their human relationships. These are good people.

But caring more about animals than humans is a perverted sickness. I’m related to one of these people, and my wife is friends with another. Both of these people are bitches who need dogs and cats as companions because no decent human being can tolerate their bullshite.

Dogs don't love, at least in the human sense. They are conditioned to accept you as part of the pack.
