one size doesn't fit all when dealing with delays but the main reason for not immediately letting everyone off to "chill" in the terminal is that everyone typically scatters like ants, don't stay in the area, and don't listen to PAs, the delay would be compounded by the extra time it takes to round up the cattle and those that missed the flight because they left the area would end up starting threads on here about how shitty the airline du jour is

the obvious solution is for everyone to buy their own plane and hire their own crew.

Passengers fault that airlines don't let them off the plane. Got it!

Ok, so what’s a reasonable amount of time to sit on the plane? Six hours seems a tad excessive, no?
