Do uppers and lowers have to go through FFL or can they be shipped direct? For example, in a state like Georgia.

The lower receiver carries the serial number and has to go through a FFL. If you buy a completed lower (lower receiver with all the internals, grip, stock, etc. installed) or a complete rifle, that has to go through an FFL as well.

So, the lower receiver and any part of the rifle sold with it has to go through the FFL. If it's not sold with the serialized lower receiver, then it's parts and parts can be shipped to your front door, at least as far as the feds are concerned.

Basically everything except this can be shipped to your front door unless your state prohibits it.

You can also do an 80% lower that doesn’t need to go through ffl. But you got to mill it yourself.

If you're in the north metro area have the lower shipped to Cherokee Gun and Pawn in Canton, the have free transfers.

Are Bear Creek uppers decent quality?

no

Can you give details about their negatives?

I have several; they all run fine. I know of others who also have them, again no problems.

Some people will tell you that you need a $1k gun or it's no good.
I've bought cheap Bear Creek uppers, ran them with cheap Tula steel-cased ammo, and have gone through over a case of ammo without issue. I hit what I aim at, the gun hasn't failed me. Some people will sneer at that, makes them feel better about themselves I guess.

Note- I have no pretensions of being "an operator", I just like to go out and shoot targets. I could care less what others think of my brand choice.

Second note- a BCA upper will fit on any milspec lower, so if there's another caliber you are interested in, it may not be a bad idea to spend a couple hundred for that upper, and a couple mags for that caliber.

I have had Zero issues with my BCA uppers. I have multiple. Have 6 different calibers so that any kind of ammo I can find, I can buy to use. I have heard the barrels won’t last as long but you are talking 1000s of rounds before it could show wear. I can just buy another then.
Only thing I don’t like is the side charging. In practicality it is great but it’s a pain in the butt to clean and have to take apart. I can see that screw getting worn out that holds handle to it and having to find a replacement one day.

I do wish they'd have kept the rear charging handle as an option on their side-chargers, so you could do either way. That's the one thing I would change.

When has a shotgun ever been used in one of these shootings? Especially with a grenade launcher? A grenade launcher on a shotgun? I'm so confused

They just came out with one with both side and rear charging handles.

How competent does a schmuck like me have to be to assemble these things if I were to just leave them unassembled in a closet for a while, before one day deciding to put them together?

The most difficult part is assembling the lower but there are plenty of step by step youtube videos. The upper will connect with a bolt and a pin. Super easy.

If you buy an upper and a lower already assembled you literally align 2 holes and snap 2 pins into place.

Yep.

Look at the PSA links.

Get magazines and ammo.

Go bang.

Make sure you buy a 556 barrel so it'll take both .223 and 556

I was on the fence about buying an AK, but had saved up just enough and decided to pull the trigger on it. I have an AR, SKS, but man this AK is absolutely a thing of beauty. Now I got to save up and hoard some more ammo

They actually have gone back to that it seems. They have seen a lot more “dual” charging handles.

I've got two in that platform, both are 223 Wylde. One 16" barrel and one 24"

Can shoot 223 and 556.

Thats why I buy parts and assemble myself. Can buy parts as funds are available, and customize the rifle any way I choose. The final product is customized perfectly for me.

I like the guns I put together faaar more than guns I've just purchased.
