All this.

Good health should be a luxury that poor people shouldn't be able to afford. I mean, if not, what's the point of being rich?

Cause you realize those dirty poors still show up to the ER, still get sick, still get long-term diseases that require expensive care or emergency intervention?

And when they cant pay, guess who the costs get passed off onto? You

Guess who's tax dollars go up when medical bankruptcies compose around half of all bankruptcies filling up the courts? You

We already have a sort of basic, super limited UHC in this country(we wont turn you away if you show up at the ER needing care or require ambulance intervention), we just do it in the most mind-bogglingly stupid and unnecessarily expensive way imaginable. Which is why despite not covering everyone, we still pay more tax dollars, more private care dollars than every other industrialized country, which all have some form of much more comprehensive UHC.

Bronc, you progs get back to me when your message becomes UHC combined with promotion of personal responsibility. "We're going to have UHC in place by 2026, but to do that Americans are going to have to start taking responsibility for themselves, their families, their neighborhoods. That means cutting the obesity rate and not soft pedaling around that issues with notions of food deserts or other distractions. That means the 50% of you who don't pay income taxes are going to pay more. That means those of you who aren't working are going to have to start."

You can't credibly argue for it while simultaneously telling the country that those who don't have health insurance are being discriminated against based on race/gender/etc. and that the people who pay into the system are actually evil and selfish.

Shift the medical model to pay upfront for services....

Absolute emergencies (not your trichomoniasis) would have special stimulations.
