Martin Slumbers head of R&A is not a LIV fan

Speaking before The Open he said straight up that LIV is bad for golf. He also sits on the board that will decide if LIV gets world golf ranking points. He also stated that they reserve the right to change who qualifies at any time. Even previous champions.
All of the heads of the golf world are slowly coming out against LIV. This may go to the courts but the courts can force a private tournament to accept participants.
Not looking good for team camel jockey

Even previous champions.

it won't be the "open" championship if this is the case

As long as everyone is allowed to qualify, it’s still an Open championship. Exemptions based on past status isn’t what makes it “open”

Picking and choosing which past Champions can play because you like or don't like which tournaments they choose to play is Bush League and you know it

I never said what it was or wasn’t Mingo. Just factually stating what makes it “open”

The players that went to LIV wanted a paycheck and an easier schedule. Good for them, but how do you rank them when they play in 72 hole tournaments, shotgun starts, team formats, guaranteed money, etc. It’s apples and oranges to the rest of the golf world.
Good for them for getting their money. They can go play whatever game they want in the desert. The rest of the golf world has a right to preserve their game and it’s traditions.

my point still stands

He actually said there will not be an outright ban of LIV players. I wouldn’t use the OPs wording on them changing who can qualify.

I didn't say you did.

The Hero World Challenge is 18 players and a Tiger Woods hit and giggle not sanctioned by a Tour and it gets world ranking points. Walk me through that one.
Not that it's all relevant to talking about past Champions anyway.

You have a point there are other events that get ranking points that aren’t tradional in terms of qualifications or amount of rounds
But is there an entire tour that gets points that don’t meet these standards?

He said they aren’t discussing any bans right now. If you read between the lines they are basically saying they will change the requirements to qualify to conveniently result in LIV players not being able to qualify.
You are right, they aren’t going to just say “anyone who plays for LIV can’t play”

Well maybe that event needs to lose its points
Y’all think PGA has no options to fight this and they are so far behind LIV. It’s not true. They are slow to react but when they eventually get everyone in their corner they will win.
Y’all are calling the game early when it’s 14-0 in the first quarter.

Not relevant. Events either qualify or they don't. At present there are numerous events getting points that don't.

The more and more I hear about this bullshite, the more and more I see people accepting modern day segregation. It blows my mind how people are acting about this. Let the golfers play.

Based on what? They currently sanction events that don't meet the OWGR standards that are getting points but they say LIV can't get points for not meeting those same standards? It's hypocrital and juvenile.
Look, they should be anti LIV, it's a threat to their product. But they should fix their product instead of trying to freeze out LIV with a I'm taking my ball and going home technique.

according to Michael McEwan of BUNKERED GOLF MAGAZINE. Slumbers was "visibly irritated at having to address the subject," and issued a "thinly-veiled threat to those golfers who have committed to LIV over their future Open prospects." Slumbers said the model seen at LIV's first two events is "not in the best long-term interests of the sport as a whole and is entirely driven by money." Slumbers: "It undermines the merit-based culture and the spirit of open competition that makes golf so special." He added, "The continued commentary that this is about 'growing the game' is just not credible and, if anything, is harming the perception of our sport." Slumbers said that "introducing bans for the so-called 'rebel alliance' from next year is 'not on our agenda.'" Although, he did "hint at changes to the current qualification process."

I actually listened to the press conference. I know what was said
I don’t think they will ever not allow a LIV player to qualify through a regional qualification. I think they very well may make it to where that is the only way for them to qualify, which realistically is almost as good as a true ban because most of the players would never even go through that process to try
