Very Interesting Tidbit about Recruiting

I was hearing yday about rankings or ranking of players. They were saying that before Covid you had 2 major services 247(the standard) and Rivals(dipping down). There were both fully staffed and sent a plethora of scouts to camps all over the nation to analyze recruits. Once Covid hit camp numbers dwindled along with employees of services going to camps also. So major recruiting analysts splintered off and started other services most notably On3. This decreased the numbers of employees at each Service. Others like workers at all major companies found it easier to work from home. Now with On3 the best of the recruiting industry has 3 major players On3, 247, and Rivals, to whom any person will like the one service that talks about the player connected to their school obviously.
In short the recruiting services don’t have the man power to send a vast majority of its scouts out to all major camps like pre-Covid. Now call it lazy and necessary they (services) make a majority of their analysts off film at home from their computer, never seeing them live so to speak on the hoof. This being the reason some ranking of specific players are vastly underrated. I trust OUR staff that has offered these 3*s and definitely believe that their ranking will climb once the season starts and more game filmed is produced. One example is the CB Hughes we got from Las Vegas is rated as a 3*, he has started since his freshman year for one of the top High Schools in the country. Both services admitted that his ranking will move up and that neither has seen him in person because they have no local service scout in the Vegas area any longer. Same with Kyle Parker 3* WR, so don’t Star gaze at some of these lower ranked commits, even from other schools. I believe we have one of the best Staffs in college football and completely trust their evaluation. My example is Atkins 3* LB from Hodge,La, he is a beast and will be a pivotal player at LSU and not ONE service has seen him play live. It took Matt House DC five minutes of seeing him live to offer and 219 tackles in one season and a 4.5 speed as a sophomore can’t be seen on a computer. CBK and Staff are killing it!

They are three stars for a reason. Maybe Undersized. Example.
Game film is telling of the tale. Not highlight film that you see.
We are getting played.

How much game film and interviews with HS coaches and assessments do you think the staff does on these kids that you don't see? For reference LSU has 4 3 star players this class. Texas has 6, UGA (3), Miami (6), OU (8), Bama (2).

OP gave a pretty rational explanation for the lack of evaluations by the current services. They don’t know better than coaches. I agree with you and all those big programs know what they are getting better than some recruiting guys that have never laid eyes on a player in a real game.

I am fairly certain LSU and most major programs have way more evaluation staff than the recruiting services. They also attend all the camps and visit with the players. I was skeptical of some of Kellys hires, but the more I see of their body of work, the more I like. Geaux Tigers!!

I'd prefer we rely on programs to identify talent and develop.
It'll seperate the great from the good.

Good points, opens up opportunities for hard working and aggressive staffs.

LA recruits have always been a lil underrated imo due to lack of camps/coaching/exposure compared to FL, TX, CA, GA recruits. Since Covid though, the ratings system became even more polarizing. You can’t tell me that a guy like Quency Wiggins is not a 5 star DE or that Zalance Heard is not a top 3 OT.

There is no longer the “25 limit”. Teams can sign more to get the 85 scholarships filled. This might be the case with some but some are under rated.

I assume this is still in response to Weeks. Weeks will not be a 3 star by early signing day. He's gone under the radar because he's not a flashy personality, but true 3 stars aren't in the primary target group of Kirby Smart and Brent Venables with offers from 5 SEC teams. There's a world of difference between his offer sheet and the offer sheet of the other three 3 stars in our class atm.

While this is true, its only partially true. Not all schools play on TV. Game tape is limited. The evaluation process has changed tremendously since Covid. Even before then, some guys got overlooked and underevaluated.

As I told you guys. Raylen Wilson committed to Georgia today with Boyles joining him this week. That’s why Weeks couldn’t go to Georgia. It was uncommitable offer
Only good if they didn’t get the big fish.
That’s the truth guys.
Thank goodness we got Perkins

I think he’s ranked low, but some services value college ready players. In other words, they think he’s undersized and will have to spend a little time bulking up his frame. Sometimes those players (no one specifically) play against lower competition and are harder to evaluate unless they are involved in 7 on 7 , camps, etc.
That is, unless your name is Manning.

Yeh… apparently because there aren’t enough scouts to actually watch.
Can you read?

It looks and sounds like you’re the only one getting played here. LSU is and always has cherry picked the players we want, whether that is a 3* or whatever. Why would LSU with this vast network of resources and money get played with all this time left?
These are players with mature bodies, mature minds, speed, agility, skills, leaping ability and size to play college football. Our coaches have the ability to go anywhere in America to look at these kids close up and make the call after extensive research.
Not all these players need or have to be players that can play anywhere on the field like some of these 5* guys are and maybe some of these 4* guys are but if they can play at a certain position for the team and our coaches see that they have room to grow and will get even better but also see that they can already play a role, that’s when they’re offered. A certain WR from a small school in Texas might be listed on a service as 6’0 170. Our coaches go see them and they’re actually 6’2 185 just one year later. They work out for our coaches and these coaches see great growth and improvement from the film that was given, they talk to them and they are great kids with a huge competitive spirit. That is the type of 3* player we are offering. Our coaches are not being played you moron.
That 3* corner from one of the premier schools in America who is 6’1 185, actually closer to 6’2 with arm length, plays with and covers one of the best WRs in the nation on a daily basis and that WR can’t catch balls on this corner. That corner will be 6’2 190 at LSU and will likely start after 1 RS year and maybe as a freshman.
I won’t even start with that horrible 3* linebacker we just got from a small school in north Louisiana. A country school that used to produce lots of talent. That lowly 3* player that plays like a college linebacker already and looks like Demone Clark at the old age of 15. He’s 15 years old and looks like a college ready LB who can play tomorrow. Yep poor LSU. You people have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m certain this guy will be a high 4* and if he keeps growing, 5* status, that’s how good he is. Yep, our coaches are getting played lol. Who are you people?
