ESPN has the SEC and the ACC. They don't need to save the Pac-12. If they want a 10pm Saturday game they have the MWC. ESPN with SEC and ACC at 11, 2:30, and 7:00 doesn't need the PAC. There are people who will watch San Diego State versus Air Force at 10pm.

Yeah but probably less than will watch Oregon/Stanford. The Mountain West's primary broadcast partner is distant 3rd place network for a reason.
