First, let me say these shows are produced and you should take what they present with a grain of salt.
They did a case where an agent was investigating a kid, 16y/o, who posted a pic and story that he shot a trophy buck to his Facebook page which was supposedly harvested during a youth hunt.
They had the person's name and they investigated if he purchased a big game license, deer tags and whether he registered the deer or not, which said person didn't.
Turns out the kid posted some google image pic and was BSing everyone on his kill.
The real question is, can, and would, Green Jeans really investigate someone's post to social media like that?
And without actually having proof, walking up on and finding actual game on person, that it was harvested illegally. Would it hold up in court?
Anyone ever heard of cases like that?

Haven’t watched lately but there are several instances like that
I think one was a FB post with video of a guy beating a small hog
I don’t know if they search it out or if it is brought to their attention

My buddy's son is a Green Jean. They %1000 investigate Social Media post.
My buddy lives in Monetgut, on the bayouside. A car passed in front of his house and smoked a cormorant. He had his kid hold it up, they took a picture of it then went on FB and say they shot it, and were about to cook it. Green Jean's called him and told him he had 2 minutes after they hung up to take the post down or he was getting a ticket.

quote:If someone reports it to green jeans, I'd think they'd try to follow up on it. Doubt they're just sitting at the office browsing random facebook profiles trying to catch a braggart that incriminates themselves.
The real question is, can, and would, Green Jeans really investigate someone's post to social media like that?
quote:Probably try to nail them for license violations or failing to validate deer/turkey tags after the harvest if they don't have enough evidence to prove it was illegally harvested
And without actually having proof, walking up on and finding actual game on person, that it was harvested illegally. Would it hold up in court?

I guess that answers my question...

Back in the day, a guy my uncle worked with always begged him to bring him a goose after one of his hunts..
My uncle killed a cormorant, dressed it, and brought it to him. After a week, my uncle sees his co-worker, guy tells him, "I don't know what kind of goose that was, but, when my wife cooked it, it stunk up the house so bad, she had to take the curtains down and wash them". He said the dog wouldn't even eat it...
So green jeans probably did him a favor.

100% my friend Craig had a pet deer and had photos on Facebook of him and the deer. He broke up with a girl she got pissed called game warden and showed them pictures of him and the deer. They showed up killed his deer because it wasn’t fit to live in the wild anymore, he paid a hefty fine and lost hunting privileges for a year….

100%
they dont even need probable cause to search you or the house. you having bought a hunting license is all they need.
they have more power and authority to violate your rights then cops do because you arent provided with the same due process rights for game violations that you are with regular crimes

Oh they will. Posted a photo of a rather large gator that was "kids new pet" and 3 hours later they were knocking on my door. Before I let them in to search INSIDE the house for a 10 foot gator, I asked if they really thought it was serious. They let me know with the quickness that they weren't playing. Later on I posted a picture of a T Rex with the same "kids new pet" but they never showed up again...

wrong
anyone who has a hunting license is all the excuse needed to enter and search your home for game violations and any other violation of law they find

That’s not what you said this is
And this is 100% false
A game warden can’t just bust up in your house
This myth needs to go away

The first, predictably, was brought forth on the first night in camp. “Game wardens have more search authority than any other cop. They can walk in your house and look in the refrigerator or freezer anytime they want. They can go through everything in your vehicle on a whim.”
False.
We have as much authority for warrantless search as any other police officer; but not more so. The misunderstanding arises from the fact that a wildlife officer may search persons, game bags, coolers, boxes, baskets, compartments or anywhere else game or fish could be concealed when stopping someone in the act of hunting or fishing or immediately after such activity.

I am not a game warden. Just dispelling a myth that has been told a million times.

Not even sure why I am responding you
You should accept the fact you are indeed wrong and not double down on stupidity

true story
100%.
They actually showed up when I was almost home, my wife called in a rage wondering "what the F did you do now". I spoke with one agent on the phone and he said they would wait as I was only 10 minutes away.
There were 5 of them, ready to wrangle this gator they really were led to believe was in my house according to that Facebook post.
I was quite amused that they put that level of effort into investigating that. We don't live in a subdivision of million dollar homes, but we don't live in a trailer in Dulac either. The only thing they weren't ready for was any sort of humor over the whole ordeal.
I wished for days one of them would reach back out over my T Rex post.
