Are you guys seeing that Buster Olney is reporting that the Braves are considered the favorites to sign deGrom if he opts out at the end of the season?

I think he'd have to really want to play for the Braves, because I don't know how we outbid them with Cohen throwing money around like it's toilet paper.

He is from Deland, FL, also the hometown of Chipper and grew up a big Braves fan.

This has been scuttlebutt since ST that he is seriously considering opting out at the end of the season. So that isn't new, what's new is the Braves are the supposed front-runner. And Buster just doesn't throw shite out there for clicks. When he posts/says something, there are legs to it. He's the best insider in the game.

I'd be ok w/a 2 or 3 year deal w/an option. He's 34, he's made his money, maybe he wants to come play for his favorite childhood team and a team w/a legit chance to win it all every year and get a ring instead of playing for a clown organization like the Muts. And come back home to the South.

Also, he wouldn't have to be the man here and shoulder the brunt of the rotation. This is Max's rotation. He's the ace. DeGrom could be the 2 and relax. A rotation of Max, DeGrom, Wright, Soroka, and Strider is just pure filth and the rest of the NL would be FUBAR.

And I just wanna see it happen for the epic melt that Mets fans will have. It would be glorious!

Couple of things:

1) deGrom will get more than a 2 or 3 year deal, this is his last deal.

2) You're giving up on Ian after yelling at everyone that you're not giving up on Ian?

I'm well aware of the scuttlebutt about him opting out. I was bringing the news about the Braves supposedly being the favorites to sign him, and wondering if anyone else had heard. The only way I see it happening is IF he just wants to be here. It certainly won't be because we can pay more, even though our payroll is finally seeming to increase.

I know Buster is a pretty reliable source, but he gets duped sometimes, too. You never know when stuff like this is just agents paying people to spread rumors to give their clients more bargaining power. And what greater motivation for the Mets to pony up the dollars, than the threat of the Braves taking their ace.

So I'm not sure what to believe of all of that.
