Hey friend, not sure why you are so angry. I’m not being obtuse or not being a man, I just think it’s a shortsighted policy by the parish and the state. Other states recognize this fact as well (Texas, Florida, Oregon, Utah, Michigan, Colorado).
I don’t give up my residency just because I’m on active duty orders outside the state, I don’t lose my drivers license or the ability to vote in local elections. Not sure why there should be a disincentive to have military folks call Louisiana home.
I didn’t get caught doing anything. I’ll happily pass this cost on to renters, no big deal. If anything it works to my advantage as it, again, disincentives military folks from purchasing a home in Louisiana, thus increasing the renter market.
That’s all I am saying.

That isn't what's happening here and you know it. I'm sorry you aren't smart enough to realize that.

No landlords get to legally claim homestead exemption on properties they rent out. Being active military doesn't change that.
Please provide a link that shows that other states allow active military landlords to claim an exemption on a property that they are currently renting.

Since you are out of state on change of station... where are you living now? Are you renting? Did you buy a house at your new station?
