Looking into kohler and generac, anyone with experience with these brands of generator. How has it held up? Basically my only two options if I want it sooner than later.

Happy with my Generac.

Most people are going to tell you they are happy with whatever brand they have.

I think they are all good if you are not an idiot and take care of them like you are supposed to.

You can find quite a few threads on the Home and Garden Board on this subject. I have no generator, so I have nothing further to add.

Just a different idea but have you ever considered getting a portable generator and having an electrician hook your house up? A good generator to power a 2000sq ft house can cost maybe $1,000 and maybe another 600-1000$ to hook it up to your house.

Just a different idea unless you have a big house and need a big arse generator. I don't and prefer a portable generator for camping, etc.

I have a Generac 22Kw and it works great. My model is a few years old. When an installer came out to service mine, he told me there had been quite a few problems with the control boards in more recent models. This was a year ago. I don’t know if that’s been resolved or not. Make sure to do some serious research.

The portable generator set up is good, if you don't have a wife.

Get a liquid cooled generator, less noise, less maintenance, more fuel efficient, and more reliable.

More money too.

Kohler is a good brand as well as cumins.

I've been told to look into Cummings. They are holding up better than the others.

We have an older generac that’s a champ. I know they had a bad run 2019-2020 fabrications that have had a lot of issues. My neighbor bought a new generac right after Ida and has had zero issues with it.

Kohler is awesome. And you will pay for it.

We have a generac with an ATS. Its not instantaneous but it only takes a few seconds to click in. the power switching back from generator to line power is unnoticeable unless you listen to the generator. Its saved us a few times when we lost power. That said they are loud so I always worry about the neighbors thoughts on it at 3am...but I mean, a good explanation should make sense if it ever came to that

Am I the only one that always worries about it stopping mid run? Something about the way it tests itself on an unnaturally low RPM always worries me. Also if AC kicks in when the genny is running, the high load makes you think its gonna stop. They dont seem to though.

Update on this, wound up going a different route got a Cummins 20kw installed last Saturday. 6400 with tax for the generator and 5k to install so 11,400 not a terrible price in this market. Generator is pretty nice and compact happy with my choice. Time will tell on durability. Thanks for all who chimed in
