Looking for insight into hosting a foreign exchange student. We don’t have details on the kid yet. We’re still trying to make a decision on if we want to do this. TIA

Hosted two exchange students one in '15 and one in '16 each for 9 weeks couple of years ago.

1st one was awesome and 2nd one was not. The 1sr will be a life long friend for my son. Great kid.

Basically, luck of the draw.

My daughter and her husband hosted a 16 year old girl from Sweden just this past school year. They enjoyed the experience, but it does come with challenges. They felt it was worth it overall.

Forgot to add, they do not have kids of their own yet, and so that dynamic I cannot talk to. However, my daughter's mom and step dad hosted an exchange student and she is good friends with my daughter as they went to school together.

Seriously, our schools had one or two, sometimes more, exchange students most years before COVID. I was always embarrassed that their lasting impression of America was this shithole town.

My parents hosted some Scottish students after I graduated college.

They really enjoyed it and they treated those kids way better than they did me when I lived there. There main thing (the difference in raising kids vs hosting them) was that they gave them a lot of freedom to come and go and let them live their lives.

We were in west Texas so there was a lot of redneck things for them to experience.

My BIL & SIL just did it and it was a great experience. As we speak they are in Spain staying with his family for the month, visiting their house in the Canary Islands on the weekends.

Did you get to experience a tour of her back door?

It will be exactly like the "Fair Exchange" episode of "Married...With Children", with Milla Jovovich as "Yvette", the French exchange student.

My daughter went to school in France and two French girls reciprocated. One of them was a near double for Milla in looks and personality.
