The PS5 is not a superior system. It has lower hardware specs and less software features such as game pass, cross play, and cloud gaming on every thing with a screen. The only advantage the PS5 has is console exclusives, something that Xbox has invested HEAVILY in. In the next few years when Activision Blizzard and Bethesda start dropping major AAA games on Xbox and PC PS5 will be behind Xbox on that front as well. Not to mention the likelihood that Xbox buys other major studios in the meantime.
Not an Xbox fan, I play PC exclusively. Just an informed observer.

At the end of the day, I don't think Microsoft's approach to gaming is really all that different than what it was in 2013. They're just going about it in a way that engenders more good will with the gaming press and the public.
They're still pushing hard for a digital only future where you don't actually own any of the games that you play and everything is streamed directly form the cloud.
I just can't support that.

I can concur the overall theme is the same, however they have really got their act together to streamline and execute the plan. They are polar opposite of their 2013 vision, which was a mess. They left the Xbox entertainment hub concept behind, and now full on gaming mode.

You already support that model, all of us do. The whole concept of "I want to own all my games on disk" is pretty weak. We live in a digital world now, love it or hate it.

their ultimate goal is to gain subscriptions under the microsoft umbrella (not just gaming). In the past the xbox console was necessary for that on the gaming end but with current technology it is no longer needed
microsoft did not enter the console wars to become a profitable gaming company. They are a tech/data/ subscription company... gaming was just another tool in the chest to to pull in people to the microsoft brand.
I am pretty sure microsoft would love to phase out the xbox all together and make it obsolete and unnecessary, and that may be the plan. The Xbox console itself is a giant nothingburger to microsoft and its profit line
Sony and mircrosoft are playing 2 different games, and microsoft's is way more profitable
