I was watching when it happened. I don’t know the rule. Don’t have a clue actually. But the first baseman clearly jumps in front of the runner at the last minute. Actually took himself out of position to catch the ball with that move. Looked to me like the ball was going to be late and first baseman knew it. He was in correct position inside the bag to make the play had the ball been sooner. Since he recognized it was going to be late, he successfully improvised a collision and it worked. He got the call he was trying to get. Heads up for sure. Don’t know about the call rule

At first glance, I thought it was nothing, but if a call were to be made, it would lean more towards obstruction since blocking bag without possession of ball.

After watching a couple times, the runner never established himself inside the lane after the 45 ft line, therefore the contact is interference. He ran inside the lane the whole way after 45 ft line.

It looks like a ridiculous call, but, the umpire did make the correct call.

Per my cousin - I don’t know the rules he does.
If there is a collision and the runner is in the 3 ft lane, no interference. The announcers did mention they thought the ball was already passed the first baseman. In that case there should not have been interference.
