100%.
If he wants to run through the bear spray and kill you, he will.
The only thing that will stop him is if he you drop him with one shot, and the only way to do that is with those calibers and a well placed shot like you said, although you'll still drop it if you hit something vital in the chest cavity, but with how the bear is going to charge you, you're only real shot is in the skull more than likely, and good luck with that. Takes nerves of steel to make that shot, and/or more than likely luck.



I'm at the point where i don't carry a gun anymore in the woods, just bear spray. If that isnt' going to stop them, then they were determined to kill me anyway and a gun wasn't going to stop them either. But more often than not, encounters with bears have them running away from you, unless you unfortunately come between mama and the cubs.

Make noise and keep moving.

I know a lot of people that routinely backpack in bear country.

I know of more people carrying but they say it's for wolves or cats. Bears aren't a big concern for them.

Bears seem to be a concern if you're a hunter. Those Bears know something was just dropped and are coming to steal it.
